After a couple of adverse years for the world, it’s a relief to see such a strong game release schedule in 2022. With the year only a matter of months from closing, and Christmas just around the corner again, let’s take a look at the most popular games of 2023.
Elden Ring
Everyone was looking forward to FromSoftware and George R.R. Martin teaming up to create an open-world masterpiece. Elden Ring, which was released in February 2023, follows the “souls-like” formula and flips it on its head. Despite being challenging, the game is well-balanced and designed to improve gaming ability. The average player spends 40-50 hours playing this game, but there’s as much as 120-150 hours’ worth of gameplay if you explore every corner of the map and defeat all the bosses. The scope of this game makes it well worth the $60 retail price.
Dying Light 2: Staying Human
The first Dying Light hit the shelves back in 2015 and become an unexpected success. Luckily, Techland searched hard for a way to improve the game even more and released Dying Light 2 back in February 2022. The storytelling in the sequel is much more in-depth, which is always good for a horror survival game. The game is set in an enormous open world called “The City”, and it’s full of zombies and other treachery. To get the most out of this game, we suggest playing it on a PC loaded with a Lenovo Intel Arc graphics card.
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Tango Gameworks made a solid return to the horror world with their release of Ghostwire: Tokyo, which filled store shelves in March 2022. Players will take control of Akito, who survives a car crash and becomes possessed by a ghost – and a fog wipes out Japan and leaves him as the sole survivor. Much of the game is about the struggle between Akito and his new passenger, as they venture into the empty streets in search of Akito’s little sister. An interesting adventure, this game would make for an excellent play for Halloween.
Gotham Knights
Warner Bros doesn’t get much right when it comes to its DC rights ownership, but Gotham Knights is pure beauty. Controlling Nightwing, Robin, Red Hood, and Batgirl, you will need to save a savage Gotham City. You will come across many familiar villains including The Penguin, Harley Quinn, and Mr. Freeze. As well as being open-world, Gotham Knights have a brilliant multiplayer system, where co-op players can drop in and out of other worlds.
God of War Ragnarök
God of War is one of the most popular franchises around, which is why the gaming community is excited to see Kratos and Atreus return. With an initial release date of November 9th, much of the game remains a mystery. However, it’s safe to say it’ll be a huge hit and a popular appearance on Christmas lists.
There have been countless incredible games released in 2022, and the above is only a small handful. Whether you’re a racer, open-world adventurer, or a card game buff, there will be a game to suit your taste.
